Peter loves helping visitors, both Kiwis and from overseas, to get out and enjoy the beautiful New Zealand countryside. Peter is Chairman of the Friends of Flora community conservation group. To help off-set carbon emissions at the Lodge, Peter plants a tree for every couple who stay at The Resurgence he also has trapping lines around the Lodge to reduce unwelcome predators to our native birds. Walking and bird-watching are his passions and he completed a long distance trek across the Pyrenees while living in France. He completed a course on NZ Environment & Sustainability and more recently a Bob Campbell wine course.
Always a keen cook, used her years in France to study French cuisine and to develop and expand her range of recipes. In 2007 she completed a short professional workshop with the Alain Ducasse Foundation. “Nelson-Tasman has a great range of fresh produce, it makes it a pleasure to build on the classic dishes of Italy, France and Spain such as risotto, coq au vin and créme brulée using high quality local ingredients matched with some great Nelson wines”. During the winter months, Clare acts as a business mentor and runs a marketing group Green Journeys of similar lodges around New Zealand.
The Resurgence is the result of many years dreaming and planning by hosts / owners, Clare and Peter. Keen travellers themselves, they have lived and worked in the UK, France, Asia, US and Australaisia. They returned to New Zealand in 2003 to start up this new concept in accommodation. “Our objective was to create a place to relax - a friendly atmosphere, a supurb natural setting with five star comforts plus a high degree of privacy & personal space” says Clare. “Many aspects of the lodge are based on Gite d‘Etapes we stayed in whilst living in France, which provide walkers, cyclists and other lovers of the outdoors good value accommodation and great regional cooking.”
”The worst thing about the Resurgence, is..... leaving!“
