YOUR HOSTS - PETER & CLARE

Resurgence lodge - gourmet lodge accommodation with mediteranean feel & ambiance
birds & nature at The Resurgence boutique luxury lodge accommodation in Abel Tasman

The Resurgence is the result of many years dreaming and planning by hosts, Clare and Peter. Keen travellers themselves, they have lived and worked in the UK, France, Asia, US and Australaisia. They returned to New Zealand in 2003 to start up this new concept in accommodation. "Our objective was to create a place to relax - a friendly atmosphere, a supurb natural setting with five star comforts plus a high degree of privacy & personal space" says Clare. "Many aspects of the lodge are based on Gite d'Etapes we stayed in whilst living in France, which provide walkers, cyclists and other lovers of the outdoors good value accommodation and great regional cooking."

Clare, always a keen cook, used her years in France to study French cuisine and to develop and expand her range of recipes. In 2007 she completed a professional workshop at the Alain Ducasse Foundation. "Nelson-Tasman has a great range of fresh produce, it makes it a pleasure to build on the classic dishes of Italy, France and Spain such as risotto, coq au vin and crème brulée using high quality local ingredients matched with some great Nelson wines"

Peter completed a long distance trek across the Pyrenees while living in France. He recently completed a course on NZ Environment & Sustainability and more recently a Bob Campbell wine course. He adds "I wanted to help visitors, both Kiwis and from overseas, to get out and enjoy the beautiful New Zealand countryside. I love planning new routes and spend hours poring over maps and guidebooks. I guess it seemed natural to put the two together and build tailored outdoor activity packages". To help off-set carbon emissions, Peter plants a tree for every couple who stay at The Resurgence and is an active member of the Friends of Flora community conservation group.

After 9 years of trapping introduced predators in a rugged area over 5000 hectares, this dedicated group of volunteers has reduced stoat numbers to some of the lowest in the country. This makes the Mount Arthur area one of the few areas, outside island sanctuaries, where endangered and declining species can be re-introduced.
